What stock?

Paper – the thin material mainly used for writing, printing, drawing on or used in packaging. Produced by pressing together moist fibers, typically pulp derived from wood, rags or grasses, then drying them into flexible sheets. Paper is a versatile material with many uses. Whilst the most common is for writing and printing on, it is also used in many cleaning products, in a number of industrial and construction processes, and even as a food ingredient.

But what type of paper do you use: Wove, Smooth, Laid, Linen, Laser, Coated, Uncoated, Coated One Side, Coated Two Sides. What Weight, Opacity and Brightness. Do you need Offset, Cover, Tag or Index stocks, it can go on and on.

Me, I like things a bit different like the paper sculptures of Jeff Nishinaka.

Visual deception

Leandro Erlich – Argentine artist constructed a realistic full-size pool, complete with all its trappings, including a deck and a ladder set within 2 floors. When approached from the first floor, visitors are confronted with a surreal scene: People, fully clothed, can be seen standing, walking, and breathing beneath the surface of the water. It is only when visitors enter and view the piece from the bottom floor that they recognize that the pool is empty, its construction a visual trick. A large, continuous piece of acrylic spans the pool and suspends water above it, creating the illusion of a standard swimming pool that is both disorienting and humorous.

Pedaling for Pounds - an update

A huge thank you to everyone that sponsored Matt and Richard in the recent British Red Cross Mountainbike Challenge. 23 miles around the technical Dalby forest red route on a wet Sunday proved challenging but rewarding. To date the 30 entrants have raised well over £5,500 for the good causes that British Red Cross support – there’s still an opportunity to donate on either of our JustGiving pages:

Matt set off like a racing snake and finished 7th out of the 30 entrants, Richard (who by his own admission was there for the scenery and not the competition) finished a respectable 14th.

Here’s a couple of pics with our ‘just finished, happy it’s over’ faces:
