If you’re a regular reader of our blog you will notice that I have a huge appreciation for the inspired designs of Penguin Books. My last post on the subject featured the new designs for Clothbound Classics and the The Great Food Series.
This time Penguin books have taken a look at their paperback classics in aid of the Global Fund to help eliminate AIDS in Africa. When you buy any of the new editions, 50% of the profits from the sales of each book go directly to the fund. The Stunning typographical designs uses a quote from each book and replaces the usual black band with red. Each cover design reflects the tone of the book and are also available as downloadable posters.

I admit it. I love jewellery. If you mix that with my love of contemporary design and anything a bit different you get Shaun Leane.
While shopping a while ago I came across a collection of Jewellery called Cherry Blossom which really caught my eye. I loved that it was feminine and elegant but with a bit of edge. This began my love of his work and made me want to find out more about the designer. Leane has been U.K. Jewellery Designer of the Year on four occasions and had a long-standing collaboration with the late Alexander McQueen. Sotheby’s has described his work as “antiques of the future”. What more can I say?

I love to read and I’ve had walls of shelves installed in my home for my books. But, I have to admit, that my taste in books doesn’t always lean towards classics and I do have shelves of trash novels that I love. The often lurid pink covers are interspersed with the odd paper back Bronte or Austin and my copy of ‘Vanity Fair’ that I WILL one day finish.

I can only dream of one day looking up at my book shelves and seeing this beautifully designed collection of Penguin Clothbound Classics designed by Coralie Bickford-Smith senior cover designer at Penguin Books.
