Will you be switching off?
On March 31 2007, for one hour, Sydney made a powerful statement about the greatest contributor to global warming – coal-fired electricity – by turning off its lights. Over 2.2 million Sydney residents and over 2,100 businesses switched off, leading to a 10.2% energy reduction across the city. What began as one city taking a stand against global warming caught the attention of the world.
This year’s ‘Earth hour’ will be going global.

I remember turning the lights out at some point last year for an hour. My housemate told me it was a big deal and we were saving the world, but when I looked across the street no one else had turned their lights off. I could even see them playing Pro Evolution Soccer and felt a pang of jealousy that they lived in ignorance of worthiness.
But I did help to save the world a little bit.
