The world map of happiness

I have recently become addicted to Digg. Following months of stumbling I am now a digger. And while digging stuff I found this global map of happiness. So I’m off to live in Mongolia.

On the serious side though this is pretty fascinating. Just take a look at Africa. And no one would be happy if Roman Abramovich was one of their fellow countrymen.

That's cool. Where did it come from? And what are the authors suggesting we do about turning the world red?

I don't think it's about action, just research. Found it on Digg. It's on my profile if you want to look at the site. My name is Mctash

World map of happiness - think i'm gonna puke!

It's funny how happiness seems to be closely linked to wealth.

I wonder what the measures were...

I suppose it's all down to what makes you happy. Some people gain great pleasure by surrounding themselves with material things. For others happiness is derived from simpler things; family, friends, lifestyle.

I'm sure there's millions of happy people in the poorer corners of the globe who could teach us a lot about the real meaning of happy.

It's the wealthy and unhappy ones that, in a way, make me happy!!!

I heard a great story once - about a fisherman in a remote village somewhere. He fished during the day, sitting in his little boat, bobbing on the sea, or walking along the sea shore. He caught enough fish for his family, went home and played with his children, then went to bed and got up the next day to do it all again.

One day a man came to him. "I can see you're a really good fisherman," he said. "You should buy another boat, and then you could catch twice as many fish as you do now."

"Why would I want to do that?" asked the fisherman. "So that in time, with luck and a lot of hard work you could build up to a fleet of fishing boats! You could sell your fish to the whole village - the whole country even!"

"Why would I want to do that?" asked the fisherman. "So that in time, with luck and a lot of hard work you could build an international company, and you could float it on the stockmarket."

"Why would I want to do that?" asked the fisherman. "Because then my friend, " said the man, "with luck and hard work you could sell your company for millions, retire as a wealthy man, and spend the rest of your days walking along the sea shore and playing with your children. Just imagine that!" said the man.

"Oh', said the fisherman, "I see." And he went home to his family with his fish.
