Eggciting News for Easter
Major Easter Egg suppliers including Mars UK, Cadbury-Trebor-Bassett, Nestle UK, and Kraft UK, have signed up to a group initiative co-ordinated by WRAP (the Waste & Resources Action Programme) working to reduce the amount of packaging required.
The aim of the initiative is to find ways of reducing seasonal confectionery packaging without compromising brand perception.
The key objective is for the group members to reduce the outer carton packaging by a minimum of 25% in weight.
According to WRAP, packaging generated from Easter eggs was around 3,000 tonnes in 2006.
If all Easter eggs were changed to the lighter, 25% less versions, up to 680 tonnes less packaging material a year would be required. Which has to be great news for the planet. Not to mention that it should be quicker to get at the chocolate inside!
