National Bike Week

A few years ago I got back into cycling. I used to cycle a lot in my early teens but, as is often the way, teenage distractions quickly take over and the bike is soon neglected to the shed/garage.

Cycling and mountain-biking in particular has become all-consuming for me; if I don’t get out and ride at least once a week I feel like I’m cheating myself. Some people do it for the exercise and health benefits, for others it’s the social scene, for me it’s about having fun, pushing your limits, seeing the countryside and wildlife – staying healthy is just a bonus!

This week is National Bike Week the biggest nationwide cycling event in the UK. A national celebration of cycling, Bike Week helps you get more out of life – by getting on your bike and exploring your local community. This year in particular Bike Week is focusing on encouraging families to taking up cycling as a regular activity, something that should be applauded.

You can find bike week events that are local to you here.

There’s loads of links here to help you get back on your bike too, go on – get pedaling!
