Band Posters part 1
Unlike the Spice girls or Blue or any other “mainstream” pop group most bands are not selling themselves, they are selling their music. So posters promoting gigs etc can be a visual treat.
A well designed band poster should evoke the mood, the drive behind the band, and really represent the band’s sound. Here are some band poster I found interesting.

By using two very different things, a lion and flowers, this Iron and Wine poster is an impressive use of vector artwork. Little things like how the eyebrows nose and mouth make the shape of a wine glass add interest.

Looking almost like a video game, in it’s bright portrayal of the comedy-folk duo Flight of the conchords. The poster helps captures of the light-hearted feel the band easy going nature, and uses some interesting typography.

This poster reminds me of old-style silkscreen and newstyle music posters. A simple colour overlay gives the impression of the street being underwater.

One of my favourites is this Xiexie poster, because of it’s simplicity. Simple illustration and use of negative space create a serene night landscape. The muted colorscheme helps the white of the text and image have more impact.

This poster almost looks hand crafted, the combination of weathered paper imperfect lines and angled elements achieve an individual look.

An abstract illustration works really well with unrefined typography. Finnish indie pop/rock band Rubik’s poster is certainly individual

Peephole’s poster is in a sketchy, scratchy style, giving the birds camera heads and using daring colours give it a retro feel.
There are so many interesting band posters that Im going to do another blog on the same subject next week. So keep and eye out for part 2
