The one we had to feature

A little while ago I started a feature of ICM’s favourite brands. Here’s one we really had to feature, seeing as how we probably wouldn’t have jobs if Apple hadn’t developed quality graphics packages. Marketed recently as the trendy down to earth alternative to the PC, its ease of use and applications has always lent itself to the design industry.

The ipod is featured in our calendar as an example of thinking beyond simplicity. It probably saved Apple from it’s downward spiral as well.

Love Apple, hate Apple. I work on a Mac all day, listen to my iPod on the way home, then check my emails on my Mac at home - but that warm, fuzzy Apple brand feeling I used to have has gone.
For me they should never have dropped the 'rainbow' logo in 1999 and started sticking an i in front of things. I'm still pretty brand-loyal, but the magic has gone from our relationship. Am I having a mid-mac-life i-crisis?

I'm staggered by the prevalence of the 'gel' button and the curved, highly polished box that grew from a relatively recent Mac OS re-skin.

It has come to represent trendy and contemporary - and anyone using a similar style seems to feel they can latch onto the Apple brand bandwagon.

The amount of derivative web designers who seem to think by adding shiny, transparent, curvy buttons they can come across all funky is amazing. I hope someone at Apple soon comes up with a new GUI so that all the design sheep can have something new to copy.

Aah, you mean the new ever-so-slightly graded bar from one tint to another combined with the product shot on semi-reflection white background?

We needed something new to copy, glassy buttons are so 2006!
