The not-so-super-markets

So I wake up this morning to the news that there should be more supermarkets up and down the land.

I don’t know whether this is a good or bad thing. The big four, Morrisons, Tesco, Asda and Sainsburys have become very competitive – which is good for the consumer who gets more for their money, but there is a flip side to this competition and it’s something thats happening just around the corner from me.

The crazy aquisition of land for the sole purpose that another store can’t locate nearby. One of these big four is doing exactly this in my home town, sitting on precious land and doing nothing with it purely to prevent anybody else building on it.

The Government’s answer is to assist the big four in creating more edge-of-town developments in an attempt to quash this über-competition – is this the answer?
Do we need more supermarkets?

Thank you dear. This is exactly the reason we don't need more supermarkets!

But if you came shopping with me I'd spend less!!

I much prefer shopping online. No old people with trollies, no screaming kids, no searching down isles for the sugar to find that they have moved it to some obscure place (that happened this weekend. I gave up and didn't get sugar). The Internet is there for our laziness, so use it!
